Level 2 Dark Incantation

The gifts of Ancestors are varied, as are the purposes of their minions. Many Ancestors are of a darker nature, or have less respect for the lives of mortals. A few of these dark ancestors grant the powers of dark incantation to their followers. The incantations of a dark incantor are available only to those few who choose to forsake the traditional path of the incantors and who undertake the dark incantor quest. To become a dark incantor, a character must first be an incantor. He must then, in character, find someone who can instruct him on the tasks he must perform to attract the attention of the dark ancestors. Only after this has been done can they become a dark incantor. Do not ask Games Control or a referee about becoming a dark incantor.

Aura of Defence
Type: Physical
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I claim an aura of Defence!
Actions: Tear a level two spell card. Touch your forehead with your casting hand
Range: Self
Effects: The caster and all equipment carried by the caster at the time of casting, gains ten seconds of immunity to all spells and incantations of the first and second level and immunity to normal weapons. This incantation can only be used for defence; the caster's weapons must be sheathed when the incantation is cast and if the protected character initiates any form of attack, the incantation will cease working. This incantation offers no protection against channelling powers.

Chant of Protection
Type: Physical
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I grant you protection (repeat)
Actions: Tear a level two spell card. Stand behind the recipient and place a hand on each of their shoulders.
Range: Touch
Effects: The recipient gains a bonus armour value of one point per body location. The bonus is lost if the caster breaks contact with the recipient, cease chanting or is struck. The first blow of any type (including through damage) to a location reduces the bonus armour protection on that location to zero hits. Blows stopped by this bonus armour do not make contact with the person protected and any special effect (such as ghoul paralysis, fatal wounds, etc...) will not affect the protected person.
Once the protection on a location is used it cannot be repaired; the spell must be cast again to regain the protection. Each location gains one hit and these will remain until damaged or until the incantation is stopped. This bonus armour is affected by any attack even if the person being protected would not normally be harmed by such an attack.
Reaction: You have on extra armour point to each body location while the incantor is holding your shoulders and chanting.

Control Unliving 2
Type: Special
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I control you! Rank 2(unless part of a wedge)
Actions: As an individual incantor or as the head of an incantor wedge, point at the target unliving, possess being or ancestral spirit. Tear a level one or two spell card, or tear all card contributed by incantors in the wedge. As part of an incantor wedge maintain contact with the incantor in front of you by holding onto their shoulders. All participants in a wedge must pass their card for the control forward to the head of the wedge so that the total control rank can be calculated.
Range: 30 feet
Effects: Controls a single unliving of unliving rank 2. Several incantors can each cast a control unliving (first or second level) within an incantor wedge, focussing the power towards the one incantor at the front (head) of the wedge. This means that the head of the wedge would be casting a control unliving equal to the sum of all the control unliving incantations cast within the wedge. When casting this spell as part of a wedge the head of the wedge must substitute the rank number in the verbal with the total number of control incantor cards used by the wedge. The head of the wedge can break away from the wedge to cast the control unliving but cannot move more than ten feet forward from the rest of the wedge and must complete the casting within ten seconds of breaking away. If the head of the wedge is struck before the incantation is complete the spell will fail as the focus is disrupted.
A countermagic or iron will cannot stop a control unliving. An unintelligent unliving that has been controlled will follow any simple command, including those that lead to their own destruction. Intelligent unliving will obey most commands but will flee if they are near death. Lord unliving cannot be controlled with this incantation. The control lasts for ten minutes, after which control of the target unliving reverts to the original creator or master and the unliving will carry out any tasks it was originally given to do. Also due to the control focus of all the wedge members to the head of the wedge this person cannot be affected by any mind affecting spells or powers during the ten seconds in which they must complete the casting.
Reaction: If you are an unliving, possessed or ancestral spirit of a level equal to or below the level of the control being cast, you become the servant of the caster, or the head of the wedge, for ten minutes.

Halt
Type: Mind
Vocals: By the power of the Ancestors I halt you!
Actions: Tear a level two spell card. Point at or touch the target.
Range: 30 feet.
Effects: The target is rendered immobile for ten seconds.
Reaction: You cannot move for a slow count of ten. You cannot speak, although you can hear and see. You cannot move if struck.

Iron Will
Type: Special
Vocals: By my power I give you iron will!
Actions: Tear a level two spell card. Touch the recipient's head. Give the recipient one of your level 1 spell cards.
Range: Touch
Effects: They can perform one countermagic against a spell or incantation cast at him, her or it. To do this you must give the recipient a level 1 spell card. The countermagic cannot be used to protect items or other people. If the countermagic is not used by dawn (6am) of the day after it is given to the recipient, it is lost. A single recipient may have any number of iron will spells cast on them as long as they are all cast by the same spellcaster.
Reaction: When a spell or incantation of level 1 or 2 is cast at you, you can tear the card in half and say, "With my Iron will, I resist that spell (incantation)". You can then ignore the effects of that spell or incantation. In all ways treat as countermagic.

Resist Fear
Type: Mind
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I resist fear.
Actions: Raise both hands above your head and recite the vocal. Note time of casting on a level 2 spell card. You must retain the spell card for the duration of the effect and then tear it.
Range: Self.
Effects: For the duration of this incantation (one hour) the caster is completely immune to any fear or mass fear from any source what so ever. Whenever any fear or mass fear effect is aimed at the caster he must recite the resist fear vocal. If the caster is unable to speak for any reason then he is unable to resist the fear and it will affect him normally.

Rite of Dedication
Type: Special
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I dedicate this body the dark Ancestors (specific Ancestor) [role-play a one minute ceremony].
Actions: Recite the vocal, perform a one minute ceremony involving the target then tear a level two spell card.
Range: Touch
Effects: This dark incantation claims the pattern of a recently deceased living or unliving being. The incantation and ceremony must begin no more than ten minutes after the death of the target. Once the ceremony is complete the dark Ancestors or one named dark Ancestor claim the pattern of the deceased. The pattern travels to the dark Ancestor's realm rather than that of its own Ancestor. A pattern who has been dedicated in this way may not be contacted using any of the speak with... incantations unless the dark Ancestor who has the pattern permits it. Also the pattern may not be summoned by any ritual or necromantic power unless the new owner permits it. The pattern claimed in this way will retain it memories and personality and may well be hostile to the dark Ancestor that has claimed it.

Speak with Unliving
Type: Special
Vocals: By the power of the Dark Ancestors I speak with unliving!
Actions: Tear a level two spell card. Point at or touch the deceased.
Range: 30 feet
Effects: For one minute you can ask individual questions of an intelligent unliving and will receive single word, truthful, known answers. This incantation can only be cast on an unliving pattern. Unliving lords may refuse to answer. The uncorrupted pattern of the recently deceased will give no reply. This incantation can be used on any unliving killed within the last ten minutes or it can be used to talk with a functioning but non-hostile unliving. The unliving being talked to can only answer things that he knows. A body that has been pattern corrected has no links to its unliving pattern and will not be affected by this spell.
Reaction: For a slow count of sixty you will answer all question put to you by the caster. You can only give one word answers. You answers must be as truthful as possible, based on what your character knows and the way in which the question was asked. If you do not know the answer to a question, say "unknown".
