Guild Rank and Apprenticeships

Each guild is given the following number of command ranks:

Rank Number issued
2 20
3 15
4 10
5 5
6 1
7 2
8 1

No additional command ranks are issued to guilds, regardless of size.

At each Gathering, all guilds will hold an election. During this, ranks will be awarded to characters that have distinguished themselves, ranked characters may be demoted and any rank slots left open by character deaths will be filled. When you are given a guild command rank, your guild command will record the title you have been awarded. The Lorien Trust will collect lists of the ranks that have been allocated from all guilds at the end of each Gathering. During September, all characters that have been given rank will receive a new character card with their title and rank printed on it.

Once a rank has been assigned, it cannot be reallocated until the next Gathering, even if the character holding the rank dies at an event during the year. Guilds do not receive promotional rank cards, instead they are given rank cards for any ranks that were not allocated at the Gathering and they may issue these during the year. Again these promotions may then either be confirmed or removed at the next Gathering. If a temporary promotion is confirmed, the character receiving the rank will be sent an updated character card during the September after the promotion has been confirmed.

The following example may make this system a little clearer. The Bards guild has ten command rank 4 slot available. At their promotion ceremony during the Gathering, they give out five of these. During September, when issued ranks are transferred onto character cards, the Bards are sent five rank 4 cards, representing the slots that were not filled at the Gathering. One of the new rank 4 characters dies at a small event in November and the Bards cannot immediately find a replacement. However, in the new year, they find someone they would like to promote. They give this character one of the rank 4 cards they were issued with in September. At the next Gathering they must decide whether or not the character keeps his new rank.

Guild Apprenticeships
In addition to their command ranks, all guilds run an apprenticeship system which allows the members of each guild access to higher levels of training and resources. Rather than increasing character's social and power rank, apprenticeships allow characters to purchase Occupational Skills at higher ranks than they would otherwise be eligible for. If you are interested in guild apprenticeships, you should approach the individual guilds for more information.
