Promotional Rank

In addition to command ranks, each faction is allocated a set amount of promotion rank cards. Again, the exact amount of promotional cards that a faction receives depends on the number of players who have pre-booked for Lorien Trust events as member of each faction (gate bookings do not count towards this figure). Promotional cards are rank boosters, and may be allocated to promising and aspiring characters throughout the year. For example, the Wolves faction High Ambassador is unable to attend the Heartland Games, a dispute breaks out between the Wolves and the Gryphons, the only available Ambassador is the Wolves' representative to the Harts. To solve the crisis the Lord General promotes another Harts' Ambassador to acting High Ambassador raising his rank from 4 to 7 with a +3 promotional card.

Promotional cards grant you a higher level of resistance to rank based effects such as mass fear, but do not entitle you to purchase OSP skills beyond the level for which you have a full rank card. To continue the above, the new acting High Ambassador may resist a mass fear rank 6, because his promotional card gives him a temporary power rank of 7. However, he may not purchase OSP skills above rank 4, because when he is no longer needed to deputise for the High Ambassador, he will return to rank 4.

Promotional rank cards will have the faction they have been issued to, the date until which they are valid and the position to which they are attached printed on them. A few examples of jobs which may have promotional cards are High Ambassador, Gate Captain and Faction Master Mage.

Promotional ranks are intended to be temporary role-playing aids, used to reward particularly good service or to encourage promising characters; they are not permanent promotions and should not be treated as such. Promotional ranks may be allocated for any stretch of time, from a few hours to an entire year. the length of time a promotional rank is allocated for is entirely at the discretion of the person allocating the rank.
