Monkeys

This is a bit complex but stick with me.

Take five monkeys and put them in a cage with a banana hanging from a string in the centre of the cage out of reach and a set of steps. When one of the five monkeys climbs the steps to get the banana squirt the other four with cold water until they attack the fifth and stop him getting the banana.

Remove and replace one of the monkeys.

The newest will attempt to climb the steps but will be instantly attacked by the other four.

Remove and replace another of the original monkeys.

You now have five monkeys in the cage who will not climb the steps to get at the banana and will instantly attack any of their number who attempt to do so yet NONE OF THEM WILL KNOW WHY. All they know is that this is how things are done, this is how things were done when they first came here, this is how things have always been done and this is how things will always be done pending further orders.

This is how Company Policy works.
